Eurotrip 2006
During August 2006 my wife was sent to Montpellier, France for a month on a business trip, so I thought it was a perfect opportunity to spend a week in Europe, visit my wife in Montpellier, and spend a couple days at my favorite place in the entire world, the Nurburgring!!!
I flew in to Frankfurt and picked up my rental "car" (It was supposed to be a BMW 1 series, it magically transformed into a Hyundai Tucson) and drove to the Nurburgring, then on to my hotel in Auderath to get a few hours of sleep before the ring opened. Then went back, purchased and 8 lap ticked And ran 4 laps.
The next morning I drove through Luxembourg, and almost the entire country of France to Montpellier down on the south coast. It was a very relaxing and scenic drive, the French drive even better than the Germans, showing proper lane discipline at all times. I was able to average between 140 and 150kph through the entire country (around 90mph) something not possible in this country, the speed limit is 130kph (about 80mph).
In Montpellier I met up with my wife after getting really lost the moment I left the freeway (Autoroute, and it's NOT free) and we enjoyed the sights of Montpellier for 4 days, it's a very nice little city with a restored old center and a new modern development called the Antigone, the two sections are connected by a mall and a tram system. The city is about 10 kilometers from the mediterranian sea, and enjoys perfect weather.
Then on Monday morning I left at 5am and drove back to the Nurburgring on my way to Frankfurt and enjoyed 4 more laps, spend the night in Auderath at the Hotel Wilemshohe, and left the next morning from Frankfurt.
